Child Safety Standards

Updated 2 October 2026 3 min read

These standards apply to every app on Aethernet, in every region, and to every user.

Child sexual abuse and exploitation is prohibited

Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is prohibited in any form. Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), the sexualization of minors, grooming, sextortion, and any attempt to contact a minor for a sexual purpose are prohibited everywhere on Aethernet, including in private and end-to-end encrypted messages. Our rules do not allow a warning alone for a first violation: they require the content to be removed and the account to be suspended.

Minors and adult features

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an Aethernet account. We do not ask for or verify age when you sign up.
  • Velvet, the adult social app, is restricted to users aged 18 and over. The plugin and the companion app show an age gate before Velvet opens, and every user must confirm there that they are 18 or older. This is a self-declaration. An account on Velvet that shows credible signs that its holder is under 18 is suspended.
  • Lalafell characters cannot use Velvet. The app checks the character you are playing before Velvet opens.

What is prohibited

Our moderation rules prohibit, on every app and with no exceptions for fiction, lore or a stated age:

  • Any sexual content involving a real minor, and any depiction, link, request or trade of CSAM
  • Sexualizing a minor or a child-like character: a stated or implied minor, school-age framing, "loli", "shota" or similar labels, child-coded props, body settings that make a character look like a child, or a Lalafell character in swimwear, lingerie, a presenting pose or with a sexual caption
  • Mods that make a character resemble a child (including "Kitten" body mods) in any sexual or suggestive content
  • On Aethergram, characters using Kitten mods are not allowed in any content, sexual or not
  • On Velvet, child-like characters are banned outright, whatever the context: Lalafell characters and any mod that makes a character resemble a child are not allowed at all
  • On Velvet, roleplay or profiles portraying anyone under 18, including high-school settings, an under-18 age, or ageplay that portrays a minor
  • Grooming, sexual exploitation of minors, and sextortion
  • Claims such as "she is actually 500 years old" change nothing

How to report

You can report directly in the app. In the plugin, use Report on the post, profile, message, muster or Yellow Pages ad. There is no separate child safety reason: choose Inappropriate content, the closest one, and write "child safety" and what you saw in the details. Comments and stories have no Report option, so report the profile that posted them and say in the details which comment or story you mean.

In the companion app you can report posts, profiles and messages. A message reported from the companion app reaches moderators without its text, so report messages from the in-game plugin where you can.

When you report a message from the plugin, your phone sends that message and up to five earlier messages from the same conversation to our moderators in readable form, together with any photos or voice notes among them. This also applies in an end-to-end encrypted conversation.

You can also write to our child safety contact at childsafety@aetherphone.net. Please describe where the content is (the app, and the account's handle) but do not send us the material itself, and do not download, screenshot or share it.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police first.

How moderation works

Moderation on Aethernet is done by people. We do not scan content automatically: there is no AI screening, word filter or image matching. Moderators act on reports and can also browse public content directly.

What we do

When we find or receive a report of child sexual abuse or exploitation, we:

  • Remove the content as soon as a moderator identifies it
  • Suspend the accounts involved, up to and including a permanent ban. While a suspension lasts, the suspended character cannot sign in or create a new account, and accounts used to get around a suspension are suspended too when we find them
  • Respond to law enforcement requests made through proper legal process

Compliance with the law

We comply with the child safety laws that apply to us. Nothing in these standards limits what we are required to do by law.
